On April 15th , Consul General Kong Xianhua visited the farmlands in the rural suburb of Mysore and talked with local farmers about agricultural production.

Consul General Kong checked the crops in the fields with the local farmers. The farmers said that the main crops here are rice, sugarcane and coconut. Due to the severe drought that lasts for almost a year, the farmers suffered from serious crop failure. Many young people left the villages and sought employment in nearby cities. Gently hulling the rice and showing the white rice grains inside, a farmer said with excitement that the rice will be harvested in about a month. I hope that the rain will come as expected and we all can get a good harvest in the next season.

Consul General Kong said that Chinese and Indian people both have deep feelings about farmland and farming can always resonate with the both peoples. I come from a Chinese rural village and I can totally understand how hard life is when a family suffering from drought. I wish good weather and rich harvests to all farmers and I hope Chinese and Indian people can be friends of sharing the same feelings forever.

The farmers thanked Consul General Kong’s care and wishes and said, “Except for different languages, there is no problem at all between China and India.” These touching words show simple and deep affinity between Chinese and Indian people and represent the essence of China-India friendship.
