On April 22nd, Chinese Embassy in India and Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai jointly helded International Chinese Language Day Celebration themed “Chinese Language: Facilitating Dialogues across Civilizations”. This is the first International Chinese Language Day held offline after the pandemic with more than 100 participants from Indian universities, Chinese language education institutes and cultural organizations joining the event. Chinese education institute India China Academy organized the event. H.E. Ms. Ma Jia, Chargé d'Affaires of Chinese Embassy in India and H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua, Chinese Consul General in Mumbai delivered the speech. Mr. Yang Xiuhua, Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in India attended the event.
H.E. Ms. Ma Jia said in the video that President Xi Jinping recently proposed the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting, pointing out the need to advocate the respect for the diversity of civilizations and calling for advocating robust international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, exploring the building of a global network for international civilization and jointly advancing the progress of human civilizations. Today’s “Chinese Language Day” is a good showcase of mutual learning among civilizations. Ms. Ma also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone involving in Chinese language teaching and learning.
H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua began his informative speech by the character “Gu” and showed the 5000-year history of Chinese characters and the profound philosophy behind them. Kong said that the International Chinese Language Day is roughly corresponding to Guyu in Chinese calendar. In Chinese, Gu (means rice) and Mian (means house) makes Rong, which symbolizes accommodation and inclusiveness. The human civilization consists of different splendid cultures. It is the diversity of the cultures that make the garden of human civilizations colorful and vibrant. Living in the community of shared future for all mankind, we must uphold the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations and build our common home a better place by cooperating hand in hand.
Teachers and students from India China Academy,Central University of Gujrat and other institutes and universities, Chinese culture lovers presented the audience with amazing performance. Wearing traditional Chinese dresses and holding Chinese fans, the students performed the graceful Chinese dance. Indian martial art practitioners brought the impressive martial art performance with sword and spear. Finally, all faculty members from India China Academy lead all the participants to sing the Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower together to celebrate the event.
