2021 is a memorable year for China and the whole world. On the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, China has defeated the COVID-19 epidemic, eliminated absolute poverty, and built a well-off society in an all-around manner. At the same time, we also set sail for the centenary dream and journey of building a modern socialist country. The China-India relations, with 71 years of ups and downs, possess great potential for cooperation. For thousands of years, China-India friendship has always been the mainstream, and the Chinese and Indian people have always shared the same heart for peace and development. By compiling this book, "Marking Centennial, Connecting People", tapping into the vast and profound vision of friends from India and China, we hope to illuminate through certain corners and sparkles, the great people and long-standing civilizations of China and India.

To understand China, one must first understand the Communist Party of China. The ultimate aspiration of the CPC , unchanged in the past hundred years, has guided China to tremendous progress. The secret of the success of the CPC in transforming the world's most populous country is to put the people at its core. The CPC has led the Chinese nation to transcend hardships and stand up, become rich, and get stronger. President Xi Jinping, being a leader of a big party and a large country with a global vision, put forward the idea of building a community with shared future worldwide, which has great significance and far-reaching influence on promoting the common pursuit of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom for mankind.

The book consists of five parts: poverty alleviation and development, local cooperation, economic and trade exchanges, cultural exchanges, and diplomacy for the people. Development is the top priority. The book contains the speech manuscripts of the symposium on "Fighting Poverty, Connecting People", with both profound insights and solid expectations for cooperation. Local exchanges and cooperation constitutes the mainstay of the work of the Consulate. There are six pairs of China-India friendly provinces and cities in the Mumbai consular district, standing at the forefront of local cooperation between the two countries. This region is the center of India's economy, finance and technology, and has frequent exchanges with China in economic and trade fields. The consular district enjoys great potential for cultural exchanges with the Chinese side as well. Although not large in size, the Chinese community here is versatile and indispensable. Against the backdrop of COVID-19 epidemic, together we have overcome many difficulties on the same boat. The touching stories are precious memories of a lifetime.

It is indeed a great honour to invite Ambassador Sun Weidong to write a preface for the book. I sincerely thank Ambassador Sun and the Chinese Embassy in India for the generous guidance and support given to our consular district. My deep appreciation goes to the India-China Friendship Association, many other organizations and friends as well as the consular volunteers, representatives of Chinese enterprises and every member of the Consulate, for sharing their insights. With the solid foundation and great perseverance of the past 100 years, let us join hands to build a great community of shared future in the new era. May the shared dreams of the Chinese and Indian people come true, may Asia and the world benefit from the awakening of the dragon and the elephant!
