Application Procedures and Material Requirements of China Visa

The Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai updated “Application Procedures and Material Requirements of China Visa”, which will be implemented from 26 August, 2022.

I. Online Application and Appointment

Please visit the website of Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Mumbai (https://bio.visaforchina.org/BOM2_EN/) and fill in your detailed and true information on the online application form and the confirmation page. Then make an appointment with your application form number following the system instructions.

II. Application Materials

1. General application materials for Visa:

A. Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China.

B. Confirmation Page of Online Visa Application.

C. Original passport valid for at least 6 months, with 2 or more blank visa pages, and the photocopy of relevant pages of the passport.

D. Expired passports within 5 years and the photocopy of relevant pages of the passports.

E. Two recently-taken color passport photos (full face, front view and bare head. Size: 48mm×33mm).

F. Certificate of COVID-19 vaccination with verifiable QR code.

G. Indian long-term residence visa or work permits (for citizens of a third country)

H. Other necessary materials required by the Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai and the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Mumbai.

2. Specific materials for different types of visas are as follows:

M-Visa

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

①Invitation letter issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation ;

②Introduction Letter issued by a company or relevant entity in India.

F-Visa

Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other non-commercial activities.

Invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China.

Z-Visa

Issued to those who intend to work in China.

① Effective ‘Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit’ or the original ‘Foreigner's Work Permit’;
② Invitation letter issued by the Chinese Employing Company.

S1-Visa

Issued to the foreign immediate family members of the holder of a Z visa or Chinese Residence Permit for work as well as the holder of an X1 visa or Chinese Resident Permit for study, who intend to pay long-term visits in China, including spouse, parents, children under the age of 18, parents-in-law.  

① Original certification (eg. marriage certificate, birth certificate, notarized certification of kinship,etc) showing the relationship of immediate family members between applicants and inviting individual;

② An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or study);

③ A photocopy of the inviting individual's passport and residence permit;

④ If the applicant is applying visa together with Z Visa applicant who is going to China for work or X1 Visa applicant who is going to China for study, besides the above-mentioned materials, the applicant should also submit the copies of application materials of the Z Visa or X1 Visa, as well as the an introduction letter issued by the relevant entity.

S2-Visa

Issued to the foreign immediate family members of the holder of a Z visa or Chinese Residence Permit for work as well as the holder of an X1 visa or Chinese Resident Permit for study, who intend to go to China for short-term visits, including spouse, parents, children under the age of 18, parents-in-law.  

① Certification (eg. marriage certificate, birth certificate, notarized certification of kinship,etc) showing the relationship of immediate family members between applicants and inviting individual;

② An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or study);

③ A photocopy of the inviting individual's passport and residence permit;

④ If an adult child and his/her spouse apply for S2 Visa, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, they should also submit a letter, specifying the necessity of their visit.

Spouses and children under the age of 18 of the applicants or holders of an R-Visa

Certification (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate) .


Issued to family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence, who intend to go to China for family reunion, including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouses of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren.

①Original certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, household register, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual;

② An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China;

③ Proof of the inviting individual's Chinese identity (e.g. Chinese ID card, household register), or foreigner's passport and Chinese‘Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card’ .

Q2-Visa

Issued to family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence, who intend to go to China for short-term visits, including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouses of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren.

①Certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, household register, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual;

② An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China;

③ Proof of the  inviting individual's Chinese identity (e.g. Chinese ID card, household register), or foreigner's passport and Chinese‘Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card’ .

R-Visa

Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

‘Confirmation Letter for High Level Foreign Talents’.

C-Visa

Issued to crew members.

A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China.

X1-Visa

Issued to students who intend to go to China to pursue long-term study for higher academic education, including newly-enrolled students and students who return to China to resume their studies.

1. Covering letter with details as follows: place to visit, name, address, contact number, and email address of the university or entity of admission,etc.

2. For newly-enrolled students:

①Original‘Visa Application for Study in China’ (Form JW201 or Form JW202);

② Original Admission Letter issued by a university in China;

3. For students who return to China to resume their studies: ‘Certificate of Returning to Campus’ issued by the university in China.

3. For the application of visas for emergency or humanitarian reasons, such as attending funerals or visiting critically ill relatives, the applicants should submit the identity documents of the deceased or ill relative (e.g. foreigner's passport, etc.), a death certificate or a certificate of diagnosis, critical illness notice issued by a hospital, proof of kinship, etc. The applicants include spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouses of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren.

III. Application Channel

The above visas are processed through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Mumbai. Please consult with the Visa Center in Mumbai or refer to its website for details of the procedures, requirements, processing time and fees.

IV. Application of Diplomatic and Official Visas

Diplomatic and official visa applications can be submitted to the Chinese Embassy or Consulates-General in India. Diplomatic passport holders, or applicants eligible for Chinese diplomatic, official or courtesy visas can be exempt from fingerprint collection.

V. Cases Requiring no Visas for Entering into China:

1. Holders of valid Chinese‘Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card.

2. Holders of valid Chinese Residence Permit for work, personal matters, resident journalist and family reunion.

3. Starting from 24 August 2022, foreign students with valid Residence Permit for study.

4. Starting from 24 August 2022, holders of valid APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC).

  

VI. Interpretation of Notice

The Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai reserves the right of explanation. If there is any inconsistency between the present notice and the previously released ones, the latest version shall prevail.
